IN PHOTOS: Harmony Project's first ever Spring Seminario

Harmony Project’s first ever Spring Seminario united 100 students and dozens of professional instructors to intensively workshop pieces for our year-end Gala and graduation. The week long summit took place at our Hollywood site, Sammy Lee Medical and Health Science Magnet School.

Leveling up

Starting with small group ensembles and working their way up to full orchestra rehearsals, students spent the week building up their repertoire with the introduction of four pieces: Tchaikovsky’s Romeo & Juliet Fantasy Overture, Perez Prado's Mambos Suite, John Williams’s Theme from Schindler’s List, and Leonard Bernstein’s Somewhere from West Side Story. The next generation of conductors

The Seminario also marked the start of training for the inaugural class of Harmony Project’s International Academy of Young Conductors. After diving into conducting essentials, student’s elected senior Grace Son to represent the Academy by conducting the Harmony Project Honor Orchestra at our gala, graduation, and Grace’s home site - the EXPO Center’s end-of-semester concert.

Peers beyond the rehearsal room

The week united students from across Harmony Project’s 16 communities, as well as students from our LA Phil compeers YOLA at HOLA. Each day included team building activities and culminated with a group trip to The Huntington Botanical Gardens to celebrate all the progress made.
