The Neighborhoods of Compton Swell with the Joyous Sounds of Camaraderie and Music
In 2017, Harmony Project expanded our reach to Compton and sought to collaborate with local nonprofit organizations and businesses that share our vision of changing student’s lives through the transformative power of music.
“With local schools continuously reducing or removing arts programs, having Harmony Project at the Compton Sheriff's Youth Activities League allows us to provide a necessary resource to our youth,” said Deputy Daryll Harkless.
US Storage Centers, a business with deep ties to the area, also recognized a need for our services and knew that together we could have a positive impact on the community and its residents.
Our partnerships with the Sheriff’s Youth Activity League and US Storage Centers have provided students from the Compton area access to musical instruments such as clarinets, flutes, and violins, which helps complement an expanding catalog of after school enrichment opportunities that include boxing, gardening, soccer, and tutoring.
Harmony Project has also begun offering college access and workforce development workshops, giving local students and parents exposure to vital information about the college application process and financial aid.
Most importantly, participating students have an opportunity to give back by performing at events that benefit community partners such as the Sheriff's Youth Activity League.
“[Our partnership] allows us to interact and ‘bridge the gap’ between law enforcement and the community,” said Deputy Harkless.
A Message From US Storage Centers:
“One of US Storage Centers’ core values is community. It’s our mission is to be involved with the community and the organizations that help make their community a better place. The Harmony Project’s mission to provide music education to the youth in Compton is one that we admire and support. Music education isn’t always provided in schools and many children don’t have access to classes and instruments. Having an organization like Harmony Project in Compton and throughout Los Angeles is such a great resource for children to cultivate their passion for music and be exposed to the art of music. US Storage Centers is grateful to sponsor the Compton program and we look forward to working with Harmony Project in the future!”
